Mikoko Na Jamii Project Progress Report

Against sea level rise, coastal communities may lose their land in the future due to erosion caused by decreasing number of trees that hold the coastal soil. Occurring along the coast, Mangrove trees play a very important role by holding the coastal soil, protect against erosion from strong waves, provide areas that fish can breed and enjoy an overall healthy ecosystem. Mission Green “Mikoko na Jamii Project” is the project that started in 2016, the first mangroves replanting attempt were done at Kunduchi creek Dar es Salaam, the three next attempts has been taking place at Mbweni Dar es Salaam, we look forward to expand and reach various coastal areas of Tanzania. In all of the phases, more than 10,000 seedlings of mangroves were planted by the aid of community. Community has been the basis for this project, and it has proven the power of awareness and education in making community involved in environmental and conservation activities.
